- Got a Girlfriend ![]()
- Had my sampler break O_O

- Made a ton of guitar tone tutorial videos
David’s got a Girlfriend!
I’ll try not to make this soppy, since I know I wouldn’t want to read several paragraphs of someone obsessing over the new love interest in their life.
I’m now with a girl called Rachel. It’s kinda cool how we met – it’s through YAWA. You see, she saw me play the “Generation: Summer Slam” show maybe 2 years ago at the Wulfrun Hall. Maybe a year later, she decided to come see YAWA play live at the little civic with a few friends…
Soon after that show, she sent me a message on myspace and we got talking. We talked quite a lot over the coming months and she came to a lot of shows. We became pretty good friends, and that friendship was consolidated when I went to her birthday party this year. We began hanging out in real life and became close friends.
A few days ago (the day before the Hadouken show, in fact) I asked her to be my girlfriend, and paint me with scales and call me a fish (actually, don’t), she said yes. So now we’re bf and gf! She’s really pretty too:

See?
She’s one of those people you can say anything to. She never judges people prematurely and she always gives people the benefit of the doubt. She’ll try new things (she’s never been a gamer but she tried playing Heroes V and either she enjoys it or she’s really good at pretending!) and she’s motivated to actually do things with her life.
It’s not all similar though – she’s really into fashion (If you know me you’ll probably also know that my fashion sense consists of whatever’s on the top of the pile, plus a lab coat.) and enjoys her hollyoaks (eugh…), I guess it goes to show the whole “opposites attract” theory works on occasion
So yes, I’m considerably happier than I have been in a long time. Even though she can watch “The X Factor” with a straight face, I feel we are really good together. It’s awesome. Yay
Okay, it’s getting too soppy. I’ll leave it there. Bitches ain’t shiiiii’.
CRAPCRAPCRAPCRAP
The title reflects what ran through my head when a few days before the Hadouken show, my sampler decided not to work. Lovely. After literally hours of trying to fix it, I narrowed it down to the flash card that I store the songs onto as being the problem. A trip to PC world and £50 later, I held what eventually became the key to my salvation. A key with also sped things up since it was about 3 times faster than the previous flash card. Loading times are much smaller between songs now, score!
Funny how things work out, eh?
Hadouken!
You know, I could write a crapload here, but most of it can be summed up in a single video compliation:
It was an AMAZING night. 550 people raving out to us. We’ve had an increase in fans on facebook by about 150 and counting. We signed loads of tickets and took loads of photos with people. We also gave out a bunch of business cards. Check ‘em out…
In fact, check out all the Merch:
I designed it all one week before the gig, awesomemerchandise.com managed to send it all within the week. The awesome picture of all of us on the poster is courtesy of GraphicsGirl herself. She’s frickin’ incredible.
Back to Hadouken, I talked to the guitarists and keyboard player, who all seemed like nice people, but didn’t get a chance to chat to the drummer or frontman. On stage, he came across as kind of arrogant (though I suppose I’m one to talk.) Specifically; I’ve never seen the appeal of having beer spat over me by a rapper in a new era hat, though perhaps that was all part of the act. I can only speculate. Still love their tunes, though. It was an awesome experience to support a band I’ve actively enjoyed before having the chance to see them live.
Dragonage!
You may have noticed that the abrupt halt in blogging co-incided with my aquisition of the game “Dragon Age”. The recommencement of my blogging has also co-incided with my completion of said game too. This might go a ways to describing how engrossed and obsessed I have been with that game.
It’s been years since I’ve been this involved with the plot of a game or book. I completely lost myself in it for hours at a time, meaning my blog took a back-seat and my social life pretty much disintigrated. Well worth it though, I mean, what social life can compare with a storyline that epic. I’m not even going to begin to describe what happens because it’d be a blog’s worth of explanation on its own.
Suffice to say, if you have a month to spare, get it. I’ve finished it through once, I could easily play through it another 2 or 3 times (there are loads of multi-choice plots that keep it interesting) but I’m restraining myself – I want to get back into the swing of actually doing things that are productive.
*Waves*
I got it! I got google wave! For those that don’t know, it’s pretty much the future of internet communication.
Google have mashed e-mail, instant messaging, collaborative document editing and… uh… pretty much everything else into one real-time, multi-user thingummy. It’s freakin’ FUN.
You have to try it. I’ve used up most of my invites, but if you send me an e-mail I’ll invite you too if you ask fast enough
It’s going to revolutionise the world, I can feel it. I feel like technology is finally progressing at a rate I that doesn’t try my patience. I really wonder what kind of things will exist 50 years from now. I probably couldn’t even imagine them.
Ugh… Guitar tone.
I’ve made a video series for boyinaband.com this month on my mortal enemy – guitar tone. It’s been quite a slog, as I’ve never been happy with what I’ve got guitar-wise, but I’ve learned an absolute crapload on the way, so it was well worth doing. Specifically, Multi-Band compressers and Dynamic EQing is freakin’ useful.
I got to rope Kieran from GuywithaGuitar into this one too, putting him in a plethora (awesome word) of obscure places thanks to the green screen
Fun times.
But yeah, I’m nearly done (last video will be tonight or tomorrow) so I can get back to doing something I feel relatively educated about, rather than a tutorial that is also a research project!
Next Week on Dave’s Blog
If all goes to plan, I’ll be straight back into working on a regular basis. I’ll…
- Make a 7 day Hip Hop song
- Write my primeloops blogs
- YAWA Practice
- Hang out with Rachel (I have to put in an appearance now she’s my girlfriend and all…)
- Play more Mario Wii with Kirstie (Oh yeah, I got mario wii this week – fun game, if a little rage-inducing.)
- Organise myself so I get more done!
I’m going to put the blogly questions on hold until my blog has an audience again. Myspace seems a little dead, so I’ve discontinued posting on there – it’ll be exclusive to this site (unless you count cross-posted facebook notes) until I find another medium to share my blogs with the world!
Congrats to you and Rachie
Wish I was there =[ but only a few weeks until you rock Kettering again!!
The HDKN gig looks like it was amazing
Loving the look of the new badges
can’t wait to get my hands on some…oh and a poster!
Fancy hooking me up with a google wave invite?
I like being your bitch. LOL
You’ll have to teach me how to use google wave next time I see you because, as you know, my computer knowledges are minimal.
You already know how amazing you were at Hadouken! But I’ll tell you again- YAWA WERE EPIC. WAYYYYY BETTER THAN HADOUKEN!
Anyway, i will stop blabbing now.
Ps- SMILE
congrats to you and rachel. I really enjoy your boyinaband website. Im also a Reason user and find it very helpful!
