Lightweight?

We headed up to Kieran’s the day before the show in Lakenheath since it was half way between the venue and my house, giving us time to rest and practice before we went up. So, naturally, as tends to happen around me, everyone decided to start drinking violently. By everyone, I mean Kieran, and by violently, I mean we were watching Die Hard 3.

So Kieran isn’t actually that much of a lightweight – he drank a reasonable amount, and the thing that pushed him over the edge from tipsy to inebriated (I love that word) was the salt that Jamie and Eamon spiked Zak’s drink with… that Kieran proceeded to yoink. Ouch.

Suffice to say he was out of it for quite a while. Jamie took the opportunity to brush the poor christian down while he was semi-passed-out with a nearby cleaning device. The rest of us (including Kieran’s two brothers Ross and Fraser (I’m pretty sure I know which is which now)) watched a hilarious film about fighting people which involved some of the cheesiest scenes ever concieved in movie history, followed by deuce biggalo male jiggalo, which is always good for a giggle.

I ate chinese food too – I feel this is worth noting.

God Bless America.

So the following day we took the van ride up to Lakenheath’s RAF base to play a show in front of the troops. Eamon documented a part of the van journey on his new phone – note the out-of-it Kieran trying not to throw up.

So we got there and after our id was checked we were escourted to the venue. I felt like doing a solid snake and sneaking off to explore, but I restrained myself. We got to explore a bit once we’d unloaded though, finding our way into an American store that sold American food – THE CEREALS!!! We weren’t allowed to buy any of it which made us gutted, but at least I got to see a cinnamon pop tart again (we will be together one day, my love…)

The night started with not many people there. Jamie was missing Radiohead to play this gig so it wasn’t very promising for him. The bands included a few old guys playing covers, a placebo-esque trio and a bunch of kids covering guns n roses. Then we went on. The room had filled up to a decent amount, and since the DJs had been throwing down metal all night, we started on Navigator. I ran all over the place and not much really happened crowd wise. However, for a change we decided to go with Starcadia next – I told everyone to get up and party and they did. They went mental. Throughout the set more and more people came up, until the outro song, At Lightspeed, where I told everyone to get everyone they knew that was sitting down and bring them to the dancefloor. It was mayhem. I loved it. Kieran had people cheering him – as he was screaming “EPIC!” they screamed “EPIC!” back at him, Jamie was no longer regretting his decision to gig over seeing radiohead and even Zak was spazzing out like an epileptic person.

After the gig we sold LOADS of merch. We got invited back to several parties, but little did we know that we weren’t allowed back on the base after the show! The promoter chick said she would get us back on another show soon. It was a battle of the bands show, incidentally – we came 3rd, after the band after us, another metal covers band, and the bunch of gnr covering kids. We were the only band to have any real crowd interaction. One of the 3 judges came up to Jamie after the show apologising for the bad taste of the other judges, which was pretty cool :D But the real prize was the fact that we made some hardcore fans that night.

Bidnizz

This week was slightly more productive – we decided what everyone was going to blog about and Eamon’s blog www.shorttyonthescene.com has started to take shape! Not too shabby :D Spent most of the day trying to think of a business name… unsuccessfully. It’s really difficult!

Bloggage

I’ve done my blogs for primeloops and biab this week, it’s starting to become a routine thing now. I like looking at my biab stats and seeing them steadily increase. I can’t wait to pass the 1000 visits per day mark, that’ll be a milestone and a half. I’m currently over 600 a day by the way!

Next Week on Dave’s Blog

We have a busy week YAWA wise!

- A Gig in High Wycombe followed by
- A Gig in Daventry
- More business meetery
- Boyinaband chiptuney goodness

AND THE BLOGLY QUESTION: Who’d've thought Americans would love YAWA so much? :D
